Angilie Kapoor’s journey into conscious leadership began much earlier than she realized, tracing back to her childhood. In the 3rd grade, she didn’t just want to sell a few chocolate Easter bunnies for her school’s annual PTA fundraiser like the other kids. Instead, she was determined to cover her neighborhood in those bunnies, eventually selling over 300. This drive continued into her 5th-grade year when she couldn’t accept that her school didn’t have a newspaper. So, she took the initiative to create one, assembling a team to bring it to life. Throughout high school, Angilie’s leadership qualities continued to shine as she served as class vice-president and co-chaired the pep rally committee.
After high school, Angilie attended college full-time while also working in various industries, searching for where her talents and passions lay. She eventually entered the healthcare field, largely influenced by her mother’s career as a nurse. Initially working as a clinical professional, Angilie soon ventured into the administrative side of healthcare, where her frequent role changes led her to climb the management and leadership ranks.
Her official journey into conscious leadership truly began when she was promoted to her first people management role. Unlike her previous positions, this role presented her with significant challenges. She felt lost, overwhelmed, and unsupported experiencing internal struggles she had never faced before. Despite reading numerous books, taking courses, and attending workshops, Angilie found herself more confused and overwhelmed.
This overwhelming pressure eventually culminated in an uncharacteristic outburst during a team meeting, serving as a wake-up call. Realizing she needed to take a different approach, Angilie embarked on a journey of self-discovery and self-awareness. A few months later, she found herself more confident, comfortable, and effective in her role.
Through this experience, Angilie discovered several truths that she now shares as a Conscious Leadership Coach, helping to empower aspiring leaders in the workplace, business, and life:
A title doesn’t make a leader.
Managing and leading are not the same.
Leadership is a state of being and a journey, not a position or destination.
One can only lead others as effectively as they lead themselves.
To lead oneself effectively, one must first know, like, and love oneself.
Leadership is fundamentally about the human experience.
Angilie’s transition into entrepreneurship was inspired by what she describes as a “divine intervention wake-up call.” Several years into her healthcare management career, she found herself working at a new startup organization plagued by numerous challenges. The high-stress environment took a toll on her health, leading to two clinical diagnoses of burnout, each requiring weeks off work to recover.
Although opportunities to advance to director positions presented themselves, Angilie was hesitant, preferring the comfort of her existing role despite its negative impact on her well-being. Eventually, the decision was made for her when she was unexpectedly laid off.
This traumatic experience led Angilie on a deeper journey of self-awareness and self-discovery. During this time, she realized that instead of continuing down her previous career path, she wanted to focus on the aspect of her job she had always been passionate about—mentoring and coaching others. After completing a year of coaching training, she launched her first leadership coaching company.
Her passion for conscious leadership stems from her experiences as a healthcare manager, where she witnessed firsthand the profound impact that leaders have on their environments and the people within them. She observed how toxic workplace environments and the global mental health crisis were often the result of leaders lacking awareness of their impact and the immense responsibility they hold.
Angilie believes that while business and people have evolved, the concept and practice of leadership have not changed much since the industrial age. She advocates for leaders who are conscious, compassionate, and informed because they shape the environments where their teams and customers either struggle or thrive. She emphasizes that leaders’ impact extends beyond the workplace, affecting families, communities, and ultimately society at large. Leadership, at its core, is about the human experience.
From her extensive management experience, Angilie has learned several key lessons that she shares with her clients:
Everyone has an inner phenomenal leader capable of leading themselves and their lives. Each person has the potential to be and lead in ways beyond their imagination, possessing within them everything they need to succeed.
Everything starts with oneself. Before focusing externally, individuals need to take care of themselves, understand that their mindset and beliefs drive their actions, and be the example and role model they wish to see in others.
Leadership is fundamentally about the human experience and extends beyond the workplace into every aspect of life. Leaders’ words, behaviors, and actions impact others far beyond their immediate interactions.
It’s crucial to seek to understand before seeking to be understood. Effective communication, which involves asking questions and avoiding assumptions, can prevent conflicts and foster learning.
Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” has been transformative for Angilie. It taught her that people have the power to choose how they react and respond to others, and that they should not give their power away.
External challenges often reflect internal struggles. By managing internal issues like mindset, fear, and imposter syndrome, Angilie found that her external challenges became more manageable, leading to greater success.
Angilie believes that leaders amplify their impact by focusing on how they make people feel, rather than just the actions they take. She recalls an instance where a former staff member thanked her for making her feel valued and seen, a sentiment that left a lasting impact.
To amplify their impact, Angilie advises leaders to create and foster healthy, positive environments and cultures where people feel valued, heard, and appreciated. This allows individuals to grow and thrive while promoting accountability, innovation, and continuous development. Recognizing and nurturing the talents of team members through coaching and mentoring is also crucial, as she considers it part of the “Leader Sacred Mission” of creating and growing more leaders. Leading authentically, strategically, and with resilience, agility, and adaptability is essential. Leaders should drive organizational vision with clarity, align their team’s actions with the organization’s goals, and be role models during challenging times.
She feels blessed to connect with others and expand her impact through her books and TV shows. Her show, “Unveil Your Brilliance,” airs weekly on the Win Win Women TV Network, an exclusive women’s empowerment platform. The main message she conveys through this show is that every woman has a radiance within her, a light meant to shine brightly in the world. She encourages women to break free from limiting beliefs, conformity, and obstacles that hold them back.
Her other show, “Take the Lead: A Consciousness Movement,” airs weekly on the e360tv/Trajectory TV network and targets aspiring leaders in the workplace, business, and life. The show’s message is that everyone has an inner phenomenal leader waiting to be unleashed. Angilie helps viewers step into their potential, live the life they truly love, and contribute uniquely to the world.
Angilie believes that the future of leadership in the professional realm is facing significant challenges. She foresees a looming leadership succession crisis due to two main issues: the younger generation is increasingly disinterested in pursuing leadership roles, having witnessed the struggles and stress faced by current leaders. Companies have also not adequately nurtured the talents of their team members, leading to instability and a lack of leadership succession planning.
To improve the future of leadership, Angilie argues that the perception of leadership must change. Leadership should no longer be about power, authority, or fear-based tactics but should embrace conscious, transformative, and servant leadership. Future leaders need to be authentic, transparent, empathetic, and accountable, focusing on making a positive impact and empowering others.
On the other hand, Angilie sees a brighter future for self-leadership, as more people are becoming aware of their inner potential and powers. With the advancements in technology and access to knowledge, individuals are recognizing and harnessing their authenticity and unique talents. She encourages continuous learning and collective support to reach full potential and contribute positively to the world.
The biggest challenge Angilie has faced as a leader was learning how to effectively and confidently lead. Her first harsh lesson was realizing that a management title doesn’t automatically make someone a leader, and that managing and leading require entirely different skill sets.
Angilie overcome this challenge by deciding to stop following the latest leadership fads and traditional methods. Instead, she leaned into discovering who she wanted to be as a leader, embarking on a journey of self-awareness and self-discovery. Through this journey, she learned that true, effective leadership is rooted in self-leadership.
