Reflecting on her experience at The Kent State School of Fashion, Mya recalls it as a rigorous training ground that prepared her for the demands of the fashion industry. She credits the program’s challenging curriculum for instilling perseverance and resilience in her, essential qualities for thriving in such a competitive field.

One of the most valuable lessons Mya learned during her time at Kent State and her internship with Kohl’s was the importance of asking for help and maintaining a balanced perspective. She emphasizes that it’s okay to take a class more than once or not achieve perfect grades, as long as you stay committed to your journey. Her internship at Kohl’s taught her that it’s also okay to change your mind and adapt to new circumstances, a realization that came during the pandemic when her planned role in product development did not align with her true interests.

Mya’s involvement in fashion clubs and her connections with professors greatly influenced her professional path. These experiences taught her about work ethic, networking, and stepping up to new challenges. She values the guidance and support she received from her professors and continues to maintain those relationships today.

Starting her career in New York City was both a challenging and transformative experience for Mya. Freelancing in New York City came with its own set of challenges, particularly the unpredictability of job durations and the constant need to adapt to new roles. Mya overcame these challenges through organization, continuous learning, and a strong reliance on her faith.
